 Greetings from Japan

A system for accrediting qualified specialists in Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology under
active consideration in Japan. The system is slated to start within 1996. The applicants
should be a member of Japanese Society for Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology(JSOMR).
The certificate is granted to those who have received minimum 3 years of practical training
of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology at the accredited institutions and hospitals under the
guidance of accredited instructor, and who pass the society's accreditation test. As we are
now in the midst of the most dramatic change to occur in diagnostic imaging, this seems a
particularly fitting time to have the specialist system.

Diagnostic Imaging for Oral and Maxillofacial Lesions will be held in Kagoshima 1996
presided by Professor Takenori Noikura. The aim of the meeting is to promote the progress
of research and diagnostic ability of diagnostic imaging and related field of Oral and

 Greetings from Thailand

This is the time for me to review newsletter from Thailand to publish in IADMFR news,
 as follow:
The dental radiology in Thailand is about 55 years which established at the time of the
first dental school in 1940. At this moment, the number of dental schools from various parts
of the country has been increased to 6, with the total of 22 radiologists worked at each of
them. The Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology Association of Thailand is in the process of
establishment. The national academic activities, such as radiological presentation,
took place as a part of the bi-annual academic meeting held by the Dental Association of Thailand.
In this year, the first meeting was held 14-l6 June 1995. Recently, in the second dental
research presentation held by the Organization of Administrators in Faculties of Dentistry of
Thailand during 27 and 28 April 1995, there were three oral and one poster presentations in
the field of dental diagnostic radiology included.
In the last few years, with the great positive policy of human development from Thai
government, some radiologic teachers have been and some will be supported to further their
study abroad up to doctoral degree. Such as Dr. Soontra Panmekiate at Chulalongkorn
University acheived his Doctor of Odontology from Lund University, Malmo, Sweden in
December l994. Dr. Suwadee Kositbowornchai at Khonkhaen University, and Dr. Srichinda
Ayatawong at Prince Songkla University received their Doctor Med. Dent. from Germany
in l993 and 1994 respectively. Dr. Sangsom and Dr. Apirom at Chiengmai University are
doing their Master Degree in USA. Lastly, Dr. Onanong Chai-U-Dom at Chulalongkorn
University is going to advanced her study up to PhD in USA on this coming October.
We hope we are walking on the road of international collaboration in order to promote
the quality of teaching, patient services and researches in dento-maxillo-facial radiology in
 Thailand.
