Thai doctor defended his Odont. Dr. thesis at Lund University

On the 16th of December, 1994 doctor Soontra Panmekiate (photo 1) defended his thesis
"Arthrographic and clinical studies of temporomandibular joint disc position" for
the degree Doctor of Odontology in Oral Radiology at the Centre for Oral Health Sciences ,
Lund University. His thesis was based on the following studies:

Dr. Panmekiate's supervisors were Professors Arne Petersson, Madeleine Rohlin and
Sigvard Źkerman. After five and a half years in Sweden, Dr. Panmekiate now is back in his
"mother university" in the Department of Radiology, Faculty of Dentistry, Chulalongkorn
University, Bangkok, Thailand. He will come back in May to Sweden for a short visit to be
promoted doctor by receiving his doctor's ring and doctor's "top hat" at Lund University's
yearly promotion.

Society for Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology - 1994

1. Members
The society had 1,160 members as of December 31, 1994. Election of the officers
of the society for 1994, 1995 and 1996 was held in November 1993 and new executives
were elected as listed in item 3.

2. General assembly
The general assembly of the society is held in each year during the period of the
annual scientific conference. The 35th General Assembly was held in Morioka, Iwate on
30 September 1994; the financial reports for 1993 and the first half of 1994, the
budget for 1995, Regulations for the Accredited Specialist System, joining the
Association for Copyright Preservation, foundation of the Division of Diagnostic Imaging,
JSOMR, and other society businesses were discussed and approved.

4. Executive meetings
The 138th Executive Meeting was held on J anua ry 8, 1995 with newly elected
executives, and the chairpersons of each committee and directors taking charge of each
section were approved. The 139th and 140th Executive Meeting were held on May 7
and September 27, 1994, respectively to discuss the society businesses; the financial
reports for 1993 and the budget for 1995 were discussed and approved.
Prof.Masayuki KANEKO, Dept. of Dental Radiology, Health Sciences University of
Hokkaido, School of Dentistry, was appointed the President for 1996 and Assistant
Professor, Akimune HAYAMI, Osaka University, Faculty of Dentistry, was nominated
for the assigned lecturer in 1996 Annual Scientific Meeting.
Discussion was made on founding Accredited Specialist System of the society
following the report of the Preparatory Committee for Specialist System. Consequently
we decide d to start the system for accrediting qualified specialist in Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology from 1995, and following approval of the General Assembly the Provisional Committee for Accredited Specialist System was established.
Foundation of the Division of Diagnostic Imaging, JSOMR was approved dissolving
Japanese Academy of Dental Diagnostic Radiology to promote its activities and a better
organization.

7. Scientific meetings
The 35th Annual Scientific Conference, chaired by Prof. Kimio SAKAMAKI,
Iwate Medical University, was held at Ongaku-Bunka Kaikan, Morioka from 27 to 29

8. Bulletins/Journals/News
The society currently published 2 kinds of journal, "Oral Radiology",semiannually
in English and "Shika Hohshasen (Dental Radiology)", quarterly in Japanese.

9. Research trends
The research works of the society cover not onl y the field of oral and maxillofacial
radiology, but also all the fields of radiology including both basic and clinical
radiological science. The current topics are concerned new modalities of
diagnostic imaging; CT, MRI, and digital imaging etc., image information system
and image diagnosis in oral and maxillofacial region.

10. Dental specialist system
The society has investigated for the accrediting syste m for oral radiologist to
enforce the specialist system. Accordi ng to approval of the Regulations for Accredited Specialist System in General Assembly the specialist system was decided to start from 1995, and the Provisional Committee for Accredited Specialist System was established.

11. International exchange
The 10th International Congress of Dento-Maxillo-Facial Rad iology and the Pre-
congress Educational Course, hosted by Prof. You Dong-Soo, Seoul National
University, Seoul, Korea was held at Hotel Inter-conti nental Seoul from June
25 to July 1, 1994. Two invited lectures in the Pre-congress Educational Course
were from Japan. There were around 100 attendants and 60 oral and poster
presentaions from Japan.
In the G eneral Assembly of the International Association of Dento-Maxillo-Facial
Radiology in Seoul the 12th Congress was decided to be held in Osaka, Japan in 1999
and Prof. Hajime Fuchihata, Osaka University, was appointed the President-Elect of IADMFR.
The 1st Asian Congress of Oral and Maxillofacial radiology will be held from May
29 to 31 at Tranomon Pasotral in Tokyo, Japan.
